Gestaçô Walking Sticks Manufacture inscription at the INPCI

It was published in Diário da República (Announcement no. 237/2023, of 29 November), the inscription under Urgent Safeguard of the intangible cultural manifestation «Gestaçô Walking Sticks Manufacture» in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DGPC). The Announcement highlights the “importance of the manifestation as a reflection of the community’s identity”, as well as “its historical social and cultural dimension in the territorial area in which it is located”, and also the “importance for sustainable development”, in addition to the “current characteristics of the context of transmission of know-how and the safeguarding and valorization measures” recommended for its future viability”.

The registration dossier for this intangible cultural manifestation (INPCI_SU_2023_001) can now be consulted on the Matriz PCI digital platform, which was prepared with the technical support of the Quaternaire Portugal team, coordinated by the anthropologist José Portugal. This work was carried out for the Municipal Council of Baião.
